Can chromosome abnormalities also considered as a genetic disease?

For example, in case of down syndrome there is an extra 21st chromosome. So can it be called a genetic abnormality or just a chromosomal disease?

Yes, the chromosomal abnormalities are also included in the genetic disorders.

Ref – Thompson and Thompson Genetics in Medicine, 8th Edition – page no. 4

You can see it is very beautifully described there that chromosomal abnormalities are described in a subcategory of genetics called cytogenetics.

So this is a part of genetics for sure.
